James Peak Trail is an incredibly scenic trail that leads up the mountain providing stunning views. The trail starts out traversing the popular St. Marys Glacier, a permanent ice field at the base of the mountain. Crossing the glacier the trail leads out into an open meadow where you are able to lay your eyes on the beautiful profile of James Peak. <br />
Summit either by switchbacks or a direct, uphill trail, either way you'll get to the top and be able to enjoy amazing mountaintop views! Take skis or a snowboard in the winter and enjoy some backcountry skiing as well!
From Idaho Springs take I-70 west to US 40 over Berthoud Pass to FS 128 <br /><br />take second right after mile marker 234 and park anywhere on the side of the <br /><br />dirt road.
